Case Study: Zero-Downtime Marine Engine Re-fits

The Problem: Tight engine bays and manual measurements lead to trial-and-error fabrication. Vessels sit idle waiting for parts, racking up expensive yard and equipment rental fees.

The Solution: We replace manual measuring with a precision "virtual install." By using 3D scanning and CAD modelling, we (or client uses data to) design and build all custom mounting brackets before the new engines even arrive.

The Process

2 // Virtual Installation

1 // 3D Engine Bay Scan

We drop exact CAD models of the new engine, transmission, and mounts into the digital scan, mating them perfectly to the existing prop shaft.

As soon as the old engine is removed, we 3D scan the empty bay, capturing exact hull geometry and the critical prop shaft flange.

4 // Drop-In Assembly

3 // Precision Bracket Design

Modifications and brackets are fabricated while you wait for the new engines to ship. When the hardware arrives, it drops in perfectly on the first try.

With the powertrain digitally locked in place, we design custom mounting brackets and ancillary equipment to fit the exact contours of the bay.

The Results

  • Drastically Reduced Downtime: Fabrication happens during shipping, not after.

  • Slashed Yard Costs: Less time on the hardstand means significant savings.

  • Perfect Fit, First Time: Perfect alignment, zero spatial conflicts, and no frustrating guesswork in cramped spaces.
